The educational department, headed by Laure Valérian, works closely with the State Educational Office at Montpellier.

Damien Ortega, a teacher seconded by the National Education department, assisted with the development of the content for pedagogical projects based on single day and multiple day visits and also on the creation of documents designed to accompany such visits, for both students and teachers.

» In conjunction with the National Educational service

The documents made available have been validated by a scientific committee and a pedagogical board comprised of National Education school inspectors and teaching
consultants.

The department has also signed a partnership convention with the Nîmes IUFM (teacher training institute) in order to inform future teachers on the themes and activities that are available on the site.

» Vademecum and Memento

The Vademecum and Memento booklets are available to students and teachers to accompany their visit and provide an interactive support that is specifically adapted to each level.

» Workshops, activities, events…

Teaching projects can also be designed based on a theme relative to the site, for example exploring the remains of the aqueduct based on the theme of water with the aim of  transmitting heritage and scientific messages.

Workshops directed by our conference guides and specialists bring the discovery days to life through projects such as: ‘budding archaeologists', ‘water engineering' or ‘the young naturalist'.

In addition to the site's permanent activities, special activities are available to school groups.

For example, there is a special crime novel competition for students aged 12. Every year, a renowned author is patron of this competition which has a double objective of pedagogy and fun. The 3 winning novels are published.

» Learning and transmission

The objective of transmission of understanding involves making the Pont du Gard a place that stimulates creation, enabling learners to look at this prestigious world heritage site from a new point of view.

Whatever the age level, geographic origin and subjects studied, the Pont du Gard site is there for teachers and students who wish to observe, explore and study the most celebrated monument of the Roman world in its fabulous natural environment.
