PONT DU GARD’S EDUCATIONAL THEMATICS

Thanks to Pont du Gard’s wide range of educational activities and thematics related to school programs, pupils will learn about history, life during Ancient Rome, the use of water and stone, conservation of the Mediterranean landscape as well as art and world heritage.

The activities will involve the whole class and will be hosted by an expert facilitator.

Educational activities related to the Pont du Gard and to the stone :

  • Hey budding architects! What about building Pont du Gard all over again?

Indoors workshop – Duration : 1h30
Bâtisseurs en herbe, et si nous reconstruisions le Pont du Gard? (Hey budding architects! What about building Pont du Gard all over again?)
While having fun, pupils can learn about the Romans’ great engineering abilities, specifically focusing on the use of round arches and vaults.

Atelier "Et si nous reconstruisions le Pont du Gard?" (Pont du Gard)

  • Who benefits from the crime?

Game, inside the museum of Ancient Rome - Duration : 1h30
During a banquet celebrating the aqueduct’s completion, the curator acquarum (keeper of the aqueduct) Cnaeus Domitius mysteriously collapses… A devilish murderer is hiding among the guests! Pupils will conduct an investigation inside the museum of Ancient Rome. Whilst learning about construction and engineering techniques during Roman times, the pupils will look at the tools and work of the craftsmen to help them identify the killer, the murder weapon and investigate the crime scene.

Inside the museum of Ancient Rome, budding detectives will lift the veil on the importance of the alignment, elevation, topographical and architectural components of the Ancient Roman aqueduct of Nîmes.

  • Pont du Gard’s tale

Outdoor role-playing visit – Duration : 1h30
During a story telling adventure around the aqueduct, children will participate in a role-playing game exploring the Pont du Gard and the use of water in the Roman era from the perspective of little drops of water travelling through the ancient waterchannel.

  • Quiz the Bridge

Outdoor interactive tour – Duration : 1h30
You want answers ? Why not ask the bridge directly! Walking around the Pont and inside the waterchannel, pupils can direct their questions to the monument. By doing so, they will receive a multitude of answers about the role of water in the ancient city of Nîmes.

Educational activities related to the temporary expositionst

  • The painting in a different way

Indoor interactive tout – Duration : 1h30
The Pont du Gard proposes to introduce the emotional power of color and shapes, through the exhibition "Dezeuze Daniel, Patrick and Claude Saytour Viallat"

, and to explain, through the mediators of art, the artistic movement "Supports / Surfaces" in order to understand the theories, the technique and stimulate the sensitivity over the works.
